South Africa is experiencing sharply contrasting weather conditions as thunderstorms move across eastern regions while a growing heatwave grips parts of the west. Weather officials are urging residents to remain cautious as storms may bring heavy rain and lightning, while extreme heat in other areas raises health and safety concerns.

Weather conditions across South Africa are shifting rapidly as meteorologists warn of thunderstorms in the eastern parts of the country while a heatwave builds across the west. The contrasting patterns highlight how different weather systems are influencing regions at the same time.

Moist air moving inland from the Indian Ocean is expected to trigger scattered thunderstorms in several eastern areas. These storms may bring bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, and occasional strong winds that could disrupt outdoor activities and traffic in affected communities.

    Storm Risks in Eastern Regions

Eastern provinces could experience unstable weather conditions throughout the week. Meteorologists warn that storms may develop quickly during the afternoon or evening hours, bringing short periods of intense rainfall.

Residents in low-lying areas are advised to stay alert for localized flooding, while motorists should take extra care on wet roads where visibility may suddenly drop during heavy rain.

Weather officials say thunderstorms can develop rapidly and may produce heavy rainfall and lightning in localized areas.

    Heatwave Builds in Western Areas

At the same time, a high-pressure system dominating western parts of the country is trapping warm air, causing temperatures to climb well above normal seasonal levels. The resulting heatwave is expected to affect inland communities where daytime temperatures could remain high for several days.

Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to extreme heat increases the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other heat-related illnesses. Residents are encouraged to drink water regularly and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day.

    Staying Prepared

Authorities are encouraging people across the country to stay informed about changing weather conditions and follow official advisories. Preparing for both severe storms and extreme heat can help reduce risks and protect communities from sudden weather disruptions.

Experts note that contrasting weather patterns like these are common during seasonal transitions. However, stronger storms and more intense heatwaves have become increasingly noticeable in recent years, highlighting the importance of preparedness.
